Stories ect....

Story #1

“I played tight head prop there in the 1978 Pan Am tournament in Kapiolani (sp?)Park down by Diamondhead. The tournament shirt that day was dark blue with the small HH logo on the front and a large Hawaiian flag on the back.”.....

“ We had to find our own way to LAX to meet the free Pan Am L-1011 jumbo to Hawaii. The tournament was an invitational and several other teams (and supporters, etc) were "funneling" into LAX and boarding the same flight.
It was maybe 15 or 16 minutes into the flight when the stew's abandoned the drink trolley amid 4 or 5 full squads of badass players on a 6 hour flight.
I'm told that some of the players had begun drinking even earlier in the day.  I don't think Pan Am flight crews had seen the naked Elephant Walk before then.....”

Jay Guthrie circ. ~1978

“Pan Am subsequently banned any and all rugby teams from flying on their planes.  Tours were then disguised as golf trips.  In the end, they went out of business. “
